Long Island, Bahamas

I was so excited about having a new cell phone, that I when it first rang, I was not only startled but ecstatic... until I saw a local Long Island number, so I knew that couldn't be good. WELL, apparently when we were at BTC yesterday, I was so excited that I forgot to get my ID back from the cashier. Oops! Well according to the girl who called me, SHE forgot to give it back to ME! (So it wasn't ALL my fault!) So today, thankfully, we still had Jeff and Wendy with their rental car with us, so we were on a mission to get down to Deadman's for my ID, and to do a little more sight-seeing.

Once we made it to BTC, and I got my ID back (all of 2 minutes it took), we began heading back north. We decided we HAD to stop at Max's Conch Bar and Grill, as so many people had raved about it being the best conch salad in the entire Bahamas. This we felt we had to check out. Now, Max's is a shack in every sense. It's just like a tiki hut on the side of the road where Max himself works his magic. When we arrived, we were the only customers, so we got to talk to Max about the 17 years he has been open, what he did before opening the shack, and how business has been. All of this while he whipped up some conch salad for us.

Once we got to enjoy our bowl, I must say... Everyone was ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. This conch salad was like no other we've ever had. The hints of green apple, orange juice, celery, onions, finger peppers, and so many other veggies made it such a unique flavor. It was refreshing, and didn't even have any hint of "chewy conch" as some salads seem to have. Conch salad is something Max has perfected, and we were not disappointed at all.

We spent about 2 hours sitting at Max's and by the time we left, we were a few beers in, and the bar was completely full. This is definitely the place to be. From locals to visitors, everyone was devouring everything. Max seemed to have the freshest food, coldest beers, and the best prices! I'm so so so so glad we got to check this place out while we were in town. Definitely giving Max five stars. This is what island cuisine is all about.

Mailboat day!!!

After returning to Long Island Breeze, we took in what we could of the remaining afternoon. Jeff and Wendy came out to Great Mysterious for some cheeseburgers and drinks on the water. We then just hung out together for the rest of the afternoon, as it was their last day here with us (sad sad sad).

We eventually made our way up to LIB for dinner where Mike made us some delicious FRESH steaks (the mailboat just came in today) and Bahamian mac & cheese... one of a kind! They sure do know how to cook up there at Long Island Breeze... every single meal we had up there has been nothing short of amazing.

Dinner seemed to linger on for a long time tonight, but that's how we wanted it. Like I said, it was Jeff and Wendy's last night here, so we were trying to spend as much time as possible with them. We've had a GREAT time during their short visit, and only wish they could stay longer. But I feel that we've made the most of our time together, which is all that matters.
